Day 8: Back on Track and a New Toy

NaNoWriMo Day 8As they say with diet, exercise and anything habit-forming in life: if you fall off one day, just get right back up on the horse the next day. So after a panicky busy day where I didn’t get any words towards my count, I made sure to get some down in Scrivener in the morning, just to mitigate that feeling of guilt hanging over my head. It also took a bite out of the quota I was targetting once I got home from Pt. 2 of the umpiring clinic I started last night.

It really worked as I slopped out about 1,300 early (and if you know how I hate mornings, “early” is indeed being used in a very liberal sense here), leaving only 2,000+ to get to my daily quota tonight. I managed 3,719 in total today, so just a little bit of set-off from yesterday’s missing 3,334 but a solid effort nonetheless.

Of course, no NaNoWriMo day is without me looking for new little tricks and I found a free app on the Mac Store to help track those word wars I love so much. Alignof Timer isn’t fancy, but when the set time runs out it has a pop-up window you must click in order to stop the alarm, which switches window focus out of your writing application and literally stops your writing in its tracks. No cheating! Plus, you can set it to a foghorn sound, which for some reason, I think is sweet.

A good day today, and I plan to be back on schedule by the end of Saturday’s YYCNaNo Write-In.
