Day 12: A Writer Walked Into A Bar. Ouch.

November 13, 2012 by keelydunn Leave a Comment

NaNoWriMo Day 12As you can see from the jpg grab at left, I got my daily quota in. Each one of the 3,334 words felt like pulling teeth, and I swear my wpm was fully 50% slower than usual, like I was typing in molasses.

Just this morning I’d read this witty pep talk from Chris Baty, Mr. NaNoWriMo himself, about how pretty shortly we’d all be hitting the “the long, dark night of the soul.” I chuckled, read only half-interestedly, and reminded myself of how easily the words (as crap as they may be so far) have come on Days 1-11.

Oh, the hubris.

I made it, but just barely. Life isn’t getting in the way of my time to write as much as it’s just getting in the way of my brain to write. Or my writer’s brain (that last sentence should be a fair indication of how bad it’s gotten). But I trudged through the dark night, one key in front of the other, and these hard 3334 words are behind me.

Here’s to hoping Day 13 is better.
